(Marietta, OH) — The Washington County Career Center (WCCC) Adult Technical Training is proud to announce it has been awarded $125,000 through the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Commercial Truck Driver Student Aid Program. This is the maximum amount available through the program and will help more students train for careers as commercial truck drivers while strengthening the local workforce.

The funding supports students enrolled in approved Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training programs. Through a competitive application process, eligible schools receive funding that can be used to help Ohio residents cover the cost of CDL training through grants and loans.

Students who receive this assistance must successfully complete the CDL program and commit to living and working in Ohio for at least one year after graduation, with Class A driving as their primary occupation. This requirement ensures the funding directly supports Ohio’s workforce and strengthens the state’s economy.

We are humbled to once again receive funding through this program and excited to share with our region that we were awarded the maximum amount allowed,” said Evan Schaad, Director of Adult Technical Training at the Washington County Career Center. “This award reflects the strength of our CDL program, the success of our students, and the reputation our training has built statewide. We are grateful for the continued support from Governor DeWine and the Ohio Legislature and for their recognition of how important commercial drivers are to Ohio’s economy.”

This marks the fifth time since the program began that WCCC has received funding, reinforcing the Career Center’s ongoing commitment to student success and workforce development. By helping students earn their CDL, WCCC is addressing the growing need for skilled truck drivers throughout Washington County and the Mid-Ohio Valley.
