Students Of the Month: September 2025

The Washington County Career Center honors its September Students of the Month, Sophia and Max.

Sophia is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program, and she is the daughter of Steve and Melissa of Marietta.


At the Career Center, Sophia is a member of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) youth organization, National Technical Honor Society, and student council (secretary).  She was on the Career Center’s principal list all last school year.  As a student ambassador, she is responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Marietta High School.  In addition, she is gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors.  Last school year, Sophia placed fifth in the BPA state competition for presentation team.  She is a member of the Ohio Musical Education Association regional orchestra, Crossfire youth group, Williamstown Strings, David Puls violin group, junior docent at The Castle, and a church leader for St. Mary’s Basilica of the Assumption.

Through College Credit Plus, Sophia has earned or will earn credits in English composition, American national government, and statistics.  Through her technical program, she has or will earn college credit or industrial certifications for the Adobe Creative Cloud software in 2D Animation, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Digital Photography, Digital Storytelling, Digital Video Effects, Graphic Design, Live Streaming and Production, and Video Production.  She is receiving technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound.  Graphic Design & Video Production instructor, Chris, commented, “Sophia is an intelligent and hard-working student.  She works well with her peers and is always willing to help in any capacity needed.”

Sophia is self-employed through her Photography business.  She plans to attend a Catholic college or university to major in political science or enroll in the United States Navy for their scholarship program.


Max is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and he is the son of Guy and Michael of Marietta.

At the Career Center, Max is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and National Technical Honor Society. He was on the Career Center’s principal list and honor roll all last school year.  In addition, he is a student ambassador, acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Marietta High School.  Last school year, Max placed sixth in the SkillsUSA state competition for medical terminology.  At Marietta High School, he is active on the varsity crew team.

In his career technical program, he has or will earn industry-recognized credentials or certifications for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and the Physical Therapy Technician Certification (PTTC).  Through College Credit Plus, he has or will earn both high school and college credit for American history, American national government, British literature, careers in health care, college algebra, English composition, first aid-personal safety, health & fitness foundations, intro to exercise science, introduction to human diseases, introduction to nutrition, medical terminology, resistance training, statistics, and technical writing. 


Max is taking course offerings and learning skills for athletic injuries & prevention, exercise & athletic training, nutrition & wellness, and sports exercise psychology.  Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren, commented, “Max is a hard worker and has excellent attendance.  He is driven, dedicated and always ready to go above and beyond in lab and class.  Max is kind and very helpful to his classmates.”

Max aspires to attend Ohio University to become a physical therapist.
