Students of the Month: March 2026

The Washington County Career Center honors its March Students of the Month, Colbie and Carder.

Colbie is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Patient Health Care program.  She is the daughter of Jason and Rebecca of Lowell.

At the Career Center, Colbie is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization.  She is also the class secretary of her technical program.  She has been consistently on the Career Center’s honor roll.  For SkillsUSA, she will be competing at the state level, in May, for the category of opening and closing ceremony.  As a student ambassador, she is responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Marietta High School.  In addition, she is gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors.  Colbie has been actively involved in soccer for the past 15 years, including four years as a member of the varsity team at Marietta High School.

In the patient health care program, Colbie is receiving technical focus and learning skills for health science & technology, medical terminology, patient centered care, patient centered care & diagnostics, and principles of allied health medicine.  She has earned industry-recognized credentials and/or certifications for automated external defibrillator (AED), cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, stop the bleed, certified nursing assistant (CNA), and phlebotomy.  She has or will earn college credit for the following academics:  American national government, English composition I & II, general psychology, medical terminology, and statistics.    Patient Health Care instructor, Heather, nominated Colbie for this honor and commented, “Colbie consistently

demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities.  She is dependable, trustworthy, responsible, and honest.  She takes great pride in her work and maintains a positive attitude, fostering strong teamwork and collaboration with both her teachers and peers.”

Upon graduation, Colbie plans to attend Kent State University to obtain a bachelors in nursing.

Carder is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Electricity program, and he is the son of Josh and Becky of Lowell.

At the Career Center, Carder is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization and is class treasurer of his technical program.  He has been on the Career Center’s principal list or honor roll every grading period. At Fort Frye High School, he was active in FFA and track.  This past summer, he interned at Grimm Scientific and now works part-time as an R&D lab technician through the Career Center’s early placement program.

Carder is taking course offerings and learning skills for commercial & industrial construction electrical systems, construction electrical systems, construction safety & crew leadership, and residential electrical systems.  In his technical program, he has or will earn industry-recognized credentials for occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) 10-hour training and Electrical Training IBEW-NECA ALLIANCE Interim.  Through the Career Center-Adult Technical Training, he is working on earning a certification for EPA608 by the end of April.  Mathematics instructor, Betsy, nominated Carder for this honor and commented, “Carder has morals and values that exemplify a student of the month.  He has respect and compassion for other students and faculty and is an asset to have in class.”

Carder plans to continue working at Grimm Scientific while attending Washington State College of Ohio to obtain an associate’s in electrical engineering.
