Career Center Names Students of the Month

The Washington County Career Center honors its November students of the month, Emma and Taylor.


Emma is a Marietta senior enrolled in the sports medicine & exercise science program. She is the daughter of Dave and Beth of Marietta.


At the Career Center, Emma is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, student council, and she holds the office of treasurer for the national technical honor society. Emma has a 4.0 GPA and is on the principal list. At Marietta High School, she is a member of the national honor society and is active in track & field, basketball, soccer, and handbells. Outside of school, Emma is active in 4H, Girls Scouts, the junior fair board, and her church youth group at Our Lady of Mercy in Lowell. She volunteers for her local fire department serving food and various other community service activities.


She has or will earn college credit for the following academics: American national government, English composition, and statistics. Through her technical program, she has or will earn college credit or industrial certifications for CPR/first aid, exercise and athletic training, introduction to nutrition, management of athletic injuries, medical terminology, resistance training, and stop the bleed. Emma is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for athletic injuries & prevention, exercise & athletic training, nutrition & wellness, and sports exercise psychology. She will sit for the physical therapy technician certification this coming spring. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren Copen, commented, “Emma is a very dedicated students with a high work ethic. She is extremely kind and helpful to her classmates.”


Upon graduation, Emma aspires to attend Rio Grande University to earn her degree to become an ultrasound technician.


Taylor is a Warren senior enrolled in the graphic design & video production program. He is the son of Ben of Burlington, NC, and Mindy of Vincent.


At the Career Center, Taylor is a member of the business professionals of America youth organization and the national technical honor society. He has received awards for principal list, honor roll and merit roll. At Warren High School, he is active in football and track & field. In his technical program, Taylor has earned or may earn industry-recognized credentials and college credit for adobe creative cloud: digital photography, digital storytelling, digital video effects, graphic design, illustrator, InDesign, live streaming & production, photoshop, premier pro, and video production. Academically, he is taking college credit courses for American national government, English composition, and statistics. Taylor is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for creating & editing digital graphics, design techniques, information technology, multimedia & image management techniques, and video & sound. Graphic Design & Video Production instructor, Chris Palmer, commented, “Taylor is a creative and hard-working student who is a leader amongst his peers.”


In his spare time, Taylor runs his own business, Taylor’s Recycling. He also likes to create and edit gaming videos. Upon graduation, he plans to attend college to become a lawyer.
