Career Center Names Students of the Month for November


The Washington County Career Center honors its November Students of the Month, Jaclyn and Spencer.

Jaclyn is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Graphic Design & Video Production program. She is the daughter of Cindy Jaclyn of Marietta and the late Brent Jaclyn and the sister of Samantha Phelps of Marietta.

At the Career Center, Jaclyn is a member the Business Professionals of America youth organization, and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). She holds the office of Historian for both NTHS and her technical program. She has been on the Career Center’s Principal List, Honor Roll, Merit Roll, and the W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office. At Marietta High School, Jaclyn is a member of the concert band, marching band, and pep band. Through her technical program, she has earned industry-recognized credentials and college credit for the software Adobe Certified Associate: Illustrator, Photoshop, Digital Photography, Digital Video Effects, and Digital Video Production. She is currently working on Adobe Certified Associate: InDesign. Jaclyn is currently taking dual-enrollment academic courses for both high school and college credit in College Algebra and English Composition. Science instructor, Tamara O’Connor, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Jaclyn carries such as kind, smart, funny, and a leader amongst her peers.

Jaclyn is currently employed as a crew member with McDonald’s of Marietta. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Shawnee State University to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Video Game Design.

Spencer is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Heavy Equipment program, and he is the son of Joe and Melinda Spencer of Marietta.

Spencer is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization, National Technical Honor Society (Treasurer), Interact Club (President), and Student Council. As a Student Ambassador, he is responsible for acting as a liaison between the Career Center and Marietta High School. In addition, he is gaining leadership skills by promoting the Career Center during its recruitment process as well as giving tours and guidance at scheduled events and with incoming visitors. Spencer has been on the Career Center’s Principal List, Honor Roll, and the W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. At Marietta High School, he was active in the football, HPAC, and basketball. Through his technical program, he has earned the industry-recognized credential for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Training, and is currently working on National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) – Core and Level I. Spencer is has taken or is currently taking dual-enrollment academic courses for both high school and college credit in American National Government, Career Development, English Composition, Small Business Management, Sociology, and Speech. Heavy Equipment instructor, Dan Dailey, commented on special traits and roles that Spencer carries such as excellent work ethic, good attitude, dependable, and a valued asset to any organization.

Spencer is currently employed as a laborer at Mondo Excavating & Co. and Thompson Landscaping. After graduating, he plans to work full-time at Mondo as well as attend Washington State Community College to obtain an Associate’s Degree for Business Management.
