Student of the Month

Kealy Parrish: January 2012


imageThe Washington County Career Center honors its January Students of the Month, Kealy Parrish and William “Lee” Byers.

Kealy Parrish is a Marietta senior enrolled in the Medical College Prep program, and she is the daughter of Barbara Adkins of Marietta.

Parrish is a member of several youth organizations at the Career Center including SkillsUSA, Student Ambassador, National Technical Honor Society, and Student Council. She has received awards for All A’s Principal List, Outstanding Medical College Prep Student and Outstanding American Government Student. During her junior year, Parrish was awarded a Superior rating for her Tech Prep Showcase “Nearly Natural (Prosthetics & Cochlear Implants)” at Washington State Community College. In May 2011 she participated at the state level which took place at the Ohio Convocation Center, in Columbus, and placed 13th. At Marietta High School, Parrish is active in Softball and Science Olympiad. She is a part-time student at Washington State Community College and is on the part-time Dean’s List. Parrish is also a member of their Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and Sign Language Club. Parrish is a member of the youth group at Christ United Methodist Church and she performs after-school tutoring there for ages K-3. American Government instructor, Ed Radcliff, nominated her for this honor and commented on special traits and roles that Parrish carries such as leader of class discussion, dependable, honest, goal-oriented, personality plus, and an excellent role model.

Parrish currently is employed at Heartland of Marietta as a State-Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA). She is early enlisted with the United States Navy and will be entering as a Hospital Coreman upon graduation. Parrish has applied for the NROTC Scholarship with The Ohio State University which entails a full-ride scholarship worth $180,000.

 

Lee Byers: January 2012


imageLee Byers is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Electricity program, and he is the son of Bill and Sonnie Byers of Whipple.

Byers is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization. He has received awards for All A’s Principal List, All A’s & B’s Honor Roll, Outstanding Electricity Student, and Outstanding Math Student. At Fort Frye High School, Byers was a member of FFA his freshman and sophomore years. He is a volunteer of the Salem Township Fire Department. Electricity instructor, Jeff Canterbury, commented on special traits and roles that Byers carries such as a leader, dependable, outstanding person, and an excellent student.

Byers is currently employed with Warren & Son Meat Processing and Cowboy Concessions as a farmhand, meat processor, and laborer. Following graduation, he plans to take classes to become certified as a Power Lineman.
