Career Center FFA Officers Attend National Conference

The Washington County Career Center FFA Officers along with their advisor, Kevin Wagner, attended the 82nd National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The five students who participated were: Colton Klintworth, Kayla Clatterbuck, Jacob Wells, Tyler Kiggans, and Louis Haught, III.
The students attended the opening session with the National FFA Officers and Mike Rowe, motivational speaker and star of the hit TV show, Dirty Jobs. The Career Center officers participated in leadership meetings, career shows, and the FFA Mall. Fair Oaks Dairy Farm, operating nine different dairy farms and milking a total of 33,000 head of cattle, was one of the participates’ visits along with the information center, calving barn, and restaurant/cheese making facilities.
The Career Center officers were among a total of 55,000 students from all over the United States that were registered for the event. One of the rewarding activities was watching FFA Members receive their American Farmer Degree’s. A total of 282 members from Ohio received this degree with four from Washington County.

Career Center Selects Student Ambassadors for 2009-2010

The Washington County Career Center Student Ambassadors have been selected for the 2009-10 school year. Ambassadors are:
Derek Bartmess, son of Pat and Gina Bartmess of Beverly, junior in the Welding program;
Nick Brunoni, son of John and Leeann Brunoni of New Matamoras, junior in the Electricity program;
Haley Creighton, daughter of Chris and Pam Creighton of New Matamoras, senior in the Office Management program;
Zach Greer, son of Jeff and Donna Greer of Waterford, senior in the Welding program;
Katie Kandel, daughter of Walter and Diane Kandel of Marietta, senior in the Cosmetology program;

Ambassadors are elected on the basis of leadership, citizenship, character and participation in school activities. They help promote the goodwill and cooperative spirit between associative school and the business community with the Career Center.

Career Center Halloween Costume Contest Winners

The Washington County Career Center held its 6th annual Halloween Costume Contest on Friday, October 30th. The students and staff were invited to participate in this fun affair that the Career Center Student Council organized. The winners of the contest won a $10 gas card. There were several categories that you were eligible to win from. The following contest winners were: Prettiest Costume, Meagan Stalford from the Cosmetology program; Funniest Costume, Sean Holiday from the Masonry program; Scariest Costume, Kyle Boron from the Diesel Truck Mechanics program; Most Creative, Melanie Felter and Heather Warner from the Cosmetology program; and Staff, Mrs. Emma Otstot, Patient Health Care program instructor.

Career Center Elects FFA Chapter Officers for 2009-2010

The FFA organization of the Washington County Career Center elected 2009-10 chapter officers recently. Members participating in the FFA organization are students from the Natural Resources and Heavy Equipment program and the Landscape and Turf Management program. The organization expands opportunities for classroom instruction to be applied to hands-on opportunities, and to further reinforce curriculum-enhancing programs within the community.
Chapter officer include President Keely Diamond, daughter of Mike and Chris Diamond of Waterford; Vice President Tyler Kiggans, son of Randy and Chris Kiggans of Reno; Secretary Kayla Clatterbuck, daughter of Debbie Clatterbuck of Marietta; Treasurer Louis Haught, III, son of Louis, Jr. and Tammie Haught of Bartlett; Reporter Kayla Clatterbuck, daughter of Debbie Clatterbuck of Marietta; Sentinel Jacob Wells, son of Rodney and Darla Wells of Whipple; Reporter Colton Klintworth, son of Ted and Becky Klintworth of Beverly; and Student Advisor Lance Boone, son of Charles and Rose Boone of Cutler.
Founded in 1928, the Future Farmers of America brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. There are currently more than 7,000 FFA Chapter in existence. The FFA organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Career Center Elects SkillsUSA Chapter Officers for 2009-2010

Washington County Career Center SkillsUSA recently elected its 2009-10 chapter officers. The Career Center representatives are President Kate Hoskinson, Carpentry, daughter of Leonard and Melody Hoskinson of Marietta; Vice President Alex Tullius, Electricity, son of Mike and Ellie Tullius of Beverly; Secretary Aaron Miller, Carpentry, son of Bill and Kimberly Miller of Marietta; Treasurer Steven Clum, Carpentry, son of Mitch and Cindy Clum of Marietta; and Sergeant at Arms Daniel Waterman, Carpentry, son of Dan and Brenda Waterman of Warner.
SkillsUSA programs help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the lab and classroom, and promote community service. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and is cited as a "successful model of employer-driven youth development training programs" by the U.S. Department of Labor. The Career Center Chapter, part of a national organization, serves 11 vocational/technical programs, which are Auto Collision/Custom Paint and Graphics, Auto Mechanics/High Performance Engines, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Diesel Truck Mechanics, Electricity, Industrial Mechanics, Masonry, Medical College Prep, Patient Health Care and Welding. Locally there are about 350 Career Center students members.
Across the country the organization serves nearly 250,000 high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training program in trade, technical, skilled and service occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
